"Measuring" with Whaea Jess

One of our Maths topics this term is "Length". Whaea Jess has been teaching us about non-standard units of measurement. We have learned that a hand span, foot length and pace (or stride) are ways of measuring length. These methods of measuring are used when you don't have a ruler or tape measure. On Friday afternoon Whaea Jess had a really cool hands-on measuring activity for us to do. We had to measure a vaierty of things. First we had to choose which method of measuring we would use and then we had to estimate (guess) the length. Finally we had to take an actual measurement. Check out our video footage!
